June 2008 - Social Report

  • 6/1/08 – “Turning Stone Casino Trip”, 16 Corvettes and 1 Camaro (my parents Jack & Marie Costa) had a rain free trip to the casino, not sure who got caught in the rain on the way home. We picked-up another Corvette at our first stop, Ron & Esther Farabell, who are not part of the club, but saw the event on our web site. Our first stop was a chance for Popple’s to catch-up to our group due to a late start. Thank you to Barry & Kandi Alt, leaders of group #2 with Dave & Darlene Holtz following up the back. Thank you to Gary & Sharon Clum, for helping me out with group #1. I may as well admit it now…group #2 caught-up to group #1 and it was not my fault! Anyway, we all split up while at the Casino for some lunch and gambling. No one wanted to admit who the high winner of the day was, but I think we had more break even gamblers that we did winners or losers. The Casino added on a few extra coupon discounts for each person and that was a nice surprise. Thank you to all who participated, I enjoyed planning the day and much more the good company. • 6/8/08 – “RCC Cruise Night”, at “Caraglio’s Pizza”, well on a hot and steamy night 30 Corvettes were in attendance, good turn-out, great to see all the cars and people out, as it seems like we haven’t done too much yet this season, but hang on, as it will be a busy summer. Thanks to the folks at “Caraglio’s”, as they took care of everyone’s needs, they had a lot of extra help on, so it wasn’t too long of a wait for anything, and the pizza and everything else was great, we go back here again on September 14th.

  • 6/15/08 – “Fathers Day Car Show”, at “Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion”, 13 RCC Corvettes and the Coast’s sharp Red El Camino were joined by a coupe more cars from the Canandaigua Corvette Club, the Mercedes-Benz Club, the Rochester Street Rods and several other clubs for a sunny afternoon at their second annual Car Show. We enjoyed touring the mansion, gardens and the wine shop. Trophies were given for Best of Show, People’s Choice and Best Club Display. Thanks to Joe and Judy Capurso for volunteering to represent our club and assist the Car Show committee to select and judge some of the winners. (This article submitted by Sharon Clum)

  • 6/17/08 – “RCC Cruise Night at Sullivan’s Charbroil”, well another terrible weather night, is it me or what, this has been a terrible summer so far. Anyway, only 8 people showed-up and NO Corvettes, oh well. Thanks to Willie Williams for setting this event up. Hopefully we can get better weather for the next one here which is Tuesday, August 19th.

  • 6/19/08 – “Super Cruise #1”, at the “Charcoal Corral & Silver Lake Twin Drive-In”, well, another lousy night weather wise, just the Civiletti’s drove out to Perry on a threatening night, surprisingly, there were over 160 cars in attendance. There have been a few changes this year, they now have a new beautiful dinning room at the rear of the building overlooking a fountain, and there is now 4 reserved parking spots complete with signs for the Cruise Night Wall of Fame, one is for our own Jim Totsline. About 7:00pm they pulled the plug on the event as it started to rain, the next one here is Super Cruise #2 on July 17th.

  • 6/22/08 – “Corvette Display/Wine Tasting”, at “Three Brother’s Wineries & Estates”, on what turned-out to be a beautiful day as the forecast was bleak, 32 RCC Members met at Wegmans/Canandaigua. We all left on time to meet-up with “Corvettes of Buffalo”, “WNY Corvette Club” and the “Syracuse Corvette Club” at the Ramada Inn on the waterfront in Geneva. Once there after some socializing and picture taking, Mike Ergort (Syracuse Corvette Club) arranged for 2 Geneva Police cars to block traffic at 2 signal lights so we could get all 51 Corvettes and 1 Street Machine out together, 104 people total. What a site going up East Lake Road looking in the mirror and seeing all those Corvettes. Once at the winery and parked, we all scattered as they have 4 unique wineries and also “Barley Yards Brewing Company”, all in all you could have sampled 16 different wines with some very interesting names and 5 different beers. I think everyone had a great day, probably the only fault was the slow service at their café, the two girls there were working very hard, but they could have used more help. Thanks to all who participated.

  • 6/29/08 – “RCC Annual Tech Session”, at John & Becky LaDuca’s house, John & Becky graciously hosted this year’s Tech Session as they did last year at their beautiful new home off State Road in Webster. About 70 people attended, the club members started arriving around 2:00pm, mostly all drove their Corvettes. What a wonderful sight it was, all the Corvettes, different colors, different years, all lined-up around their large U-shaped driveway. This year John featured 3 guest people, Dick Barrett to give us information on the appraising of cars. Dick has been doing appraising for many years and is a certified member of the International Vehicle Appraisers. He is very knowledgeable and informative, I think anyone, especially who owns a vintage Corvette should give him a call, you can reach him at: #377-4379 or e-mail at: Barrett@i-van.org thanks Dick. We were also given a demonstration of the 3M protective clear plastic that is fitted over the car body panels from a specialist from 3M. He has the expertise and is a perfectionist, once you set-up and appointment, he will come to your garage and install as much or a little as the covering you want, hey John, was that piece he put on your car as a demo free? If you’re interested get hold of Oscar Ortiz at: #227-4055. We also had Chris Cod and Randy Johnson from our sponsor, Bob Johnson Chevrolet, they came to take questions and give us some updates from GM. Of course, both fellows are very knowledgeable and current with all things from GM. They drove in with a new 2008 Crystal Red coupe and were willing to and did give demo rides. They both tried to talk BJ management into taking one of the Z06’s to the secession, but it didn’t work, thanks Chris and Randy. They did a great job and enlightened many of us. It started to rain somewhat and dampened out cars, but not our spirits. That’s because the best part of the day was about to appear, the FOOD! Most of the women stayed inside and talked about their recipes (and other stuff too, I’m sure), they didn’t fail us, the feast was great! Everything started to break-up around 6:30pm, everyone pitched-in to straighten up, a great time was held by all. THANKS to John & Becky and also all the presenters for another successful event. • 6/30/08 – “RCC Club Meeting/Cruise Night”, at “Bill Gray’s”, Frontier Commons. The night was another ugly night weather wise which kept the Corvette count down, but there still was 42 Corvettes in the parking lot. Dan Gray was out in the lot handing out coupons for lots of free items, thanks Dan. Castle Products were there with their Nationwide Race Car and also hand-outs, thanks to Castle. After most ate, we gathered outside on the deck for the 7:00pm meeting. Things were kept as sort as possible, Castle handed out diddy bags for the raffle and Bill Gray’s Manager went out and judged the cars and the award for the best car went to Jim Totsline’s 2006 Black Z06, he was presented with a $25.00 gift certificate from Bill Gray’s. That will be it for meetings until the August 25th meeting, see everyone at the July 27th Picnic.

Respectfully submitted,
